About STEM Racing
The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) is thrilled to announce the launch of the globally acclaimed STEM Racing programme in the Cayman Islands. Through this innovative initiative, CMF brings the excitement of Formula 1 racing into the classroom, empowering students with hands-on experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The STEM Racing launched in the UK (formally as F1 in Schools) and now spanning over 60 countries, goes beyond being a competition—it’s a transformative experience that helps students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, project management, and problem-solving. Acclaimed as the world’s biggest and most exciting STEM-based educational Project, STEM Racing is a multi-disciplinary challenge, in which teams of students aged 9 to 19 deploy CAD/CAM software to collaborate, project-manage, design, analyse, manufacture, test and then race miniature compressed-gas powered F1 cars down a 20m track.
We are thrilled to celebrate the top-performing teams from the Cayman Islands:
- Regional Finals Champions – Brac Racers from Layman E. Scott High School
- 2nd Place: John Gray Blazers from John Gray Racing
- 3rd Place: Scorch Racing from Cayman Prep and High School
But the success doesn’t end there — Cayman teams also earned Special Awards for engineering excellence, creativity, teamwork, and innovation!
🏆 Best Verbal Presentation – Brac Racers
🏆 Sponsorship & Marketing Award – Scorch Racing
🏆 Team Identity Award – Scorch Racing
🏆 Video Challenge Winner – John Gray Blazers
🏆 Fastest Car (1.340) – Brac Racers
🏆 Best Engineered Car – Brac Racers
🏆 Best Designed Car (with Halo) – Cayman International School
Behind every podium finish is where the real learning happens — in the “garage,” surrounded by sketches, scraps, data, and determination.
That’s where students discover how to:
Fix a wing that didn’t work the first time
Improve a car that ran slower than expected
Make sense of data that looks confusing… until it doesn’t
STEM Racing Cayman Islands isn’t just about building fast cars — It’s about building resilient thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and future engineers who keep pushing forward with better questions.
To our students: You made Cayman proud.
To our teachers and sponsors: Thank you for fueling this journey.
To our community: The future of engineering is accelerating right here at home.
Objective

LOCAL SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN Fall 2025 STEM Racing PROGRAMME
- Cayman International School
- Grace Christian Academy
- Cayman Prep and High School
- Layman Scott High School
- John Gray High School
Cayman International School and Clifton Hunter High School were the first schools to participate in the program in the Spring of 2025, which gives students the opportunity to design, build, and race their own miniature F1 cars. Before the summer, there will be a national competition between the schools to gain experience as they work their way to the regionals and then to the World Finals held each November.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Using 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software; students will design an F1 car of the future to the specifications set by the International Rules Committee.
Aerodynamics are analysed for drag co-efficiency in a virtual wind tunnel using Computational Fluid Dynamics Software (CFD).
Using 3D CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) software, the team evaluates the most efficient machining strategy to make the car.
Aerodynamics are tested in air trace visualization tunnels. Students can fine tune designs to optimise speed and drag co- efficiency.
