CMF Auto Slalom League, marking another significant milestone

The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) successfully hosted Event #4 of the 2026 CMF Auto Slalom League, marking another significant milestone in the continued growth of grassroots motorsport in the Cayman Islands.
With 13 competitors and more than 40 spectators, the event attracted the largest turnout since the programme began, demonstrating the growing interest in safe, affordable and accessible motorsport. The event also achieved another important milestone with three female drivers participating, the highest female participation in a CMF Auto Slalom event to date, reinforcing the Federation’s commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone interested in motorsport.
The Cayman Motoring Federation’s Auto Slalom programme was launched in 2024 with support from the FIA Motorsport-in-a-Box (MSIB) Programme, which provided both funding and professional steward training for the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) . That investment established the governance, safety standards and operational knowledge needed to build a sustainable grassroots motorsport programme in the Cayman Islands.
From a single Auto Slalom event in 2024, the programme expanded to four events in 2025 and has now evolved into a six-event national championship in 2026. The league continues to provide a safe and structured entry point into motorsport while developing drivers, officials, volunteers and future motorsport leaders.
Scoring is a combined score of the two fastest out of three laps.

Championship Standings After Event #4
Championship points are awarded at each event based on finishing position within each competition class. Drivers earn 25 points for first place, 18 for second, 15 for third, 12 for fourth and 10 for fifth, with points accumulating throughout the season to determine the overall class champions. The league features separate championships for the Stock, Modified and Heavy classes, ensuring fair competition between comparable vehicles. As the season progresses, every event becomes increasingly important, with competitors battling for valuable championship points and national honours in the Cayman Motoring Federation Auto Slalom League.

Building Safer Drivers and Safer Roads
Auto Slalom is designed to improve driving skills in a safe, controlled environment away from public roads. Drivers navigate a temporary cone course that challenges precision, vehicle control, braking, acceleration and cornering techniques rather than outright speed.
By learning how their vehicles respond under different driving conditions, participants develop skills that transfer directly to everyday driving. This helps build greater confidence, improved hazard awareness and better decision-making behind the wheel.
Unlike illegal street racing, Auto Slalom takes place on private property under strict safety regulations with trained officials, marshals, timing personnel and emergency procedures. Every event is professionally organised to FIA standards, providing a safe environment where drivers can learn, improve and enjoy motorsport responsibly.
CMF President Jane Scaletta said the continued growth of the programme reflects the vision established when the Federation first introduced Auto Slalom through the FIA Motorsport-in-a-Box initiative.
“This was our largest Auto Slalom event since launching the programme in 2024, with 13 competitors and more than 40 spectators supporting the event. We are especially proud to welcome a record three female drivers, demonstrating that Auto Slalom provides an accessible, welcoming and safe introduction to motorsport for everyone. The support we received from the FIA through the Motorsport-in-a-Box Programme and steward training gave us the professional foundation to build this programme correctly from the beginning. Today we are seeing that investment pays dividends through safer events, growing participation and stronger community engagement.”
CMF Vice President Rhondel Ramdath, who oversees the volunteer and marshal programme, recognised the people working behind the scenes.
“Events like these simply would not happen without our volunteers, marshals and officials. They arrive early, work throughout the day and remain focused on safety from the first car to the final run. Their commitment is building a professional motorsport culture in the Cayman Islands, and the Federation is incredibly grateful for their dedication.”
Race Director Rory Scheepers praised both the standard of competition and the professionalism displayed throughout the day.
“Every event continues to raise the standard of driving in Cayman. It was encouraging to see experienced competitors challenged by newcomers while everyone demonstrated respect for the rules, the officials and each other. Auto Slalom is about precision, consistency and control, and those are the same skills that make safer drivers on our roads.”
